Commercial motorcycle operators in Kebbi State, staged a peaceful protest demanding the Federal Road Safety Corps to stop intimidating their members while on the roads across the state.

The protesters in hundred invaded FRSC headquarters in Birnin Kebbi this friday with their motorcycles.

The protesters also blocked the Halliru Abdu roundabout in Birnin Kebbi metropolise after which Governor Atiku Bagudu was returning from Juma’at prayer at Army Barracks Mosque but the governor ordered them to give way for his convoy to pass, which the protesters obeyed.

Speaking to newsmen, Kebbi state Chairman of ACOMORAN, Nafi’u Zaki, said the protest was to show their grievences over intimidation of commercial motorcycle operators by men and officers of the corps in the state.

He revealed that, following the protest, Governor Bagudu, summoned a meeting with the leadership and complained of traffic offences being committed by members of the union.

Zaki, said the Governor told them that, he will hold a meeting with the heads of FRSC and the Police over their grievances.

He said, the leadership of the union admitted traffic offencies violation by commercial motorcycle operarors in the state.

The Chairman, debunked the rumour circulating that, one of his member was killed by the FRSC on patrol that triggered the protest which according to him was untrue.

Zaki, stated that, the leadership of the union on regular basis sensitize and educate members on the need to obeybtraffic rules and regulations.

Effort to get the officials of the FRSC was not possible as the Sector Commander did not answer all phone call by Radio Nigeria correspondent.
