Gunmen Kill Lawyer In Zamfara State

A senior lawyer has been killed in Gusau, Zamfara state within the late hours of Thursday by gunmen suspected to be bandits.

Chairman Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Junaidu Abubakar who confirmed this in a statement, said the deceased, B. T. Azza died on Thursday August 18, 2022 between 10.00pm and 10.30pm as a result of gunshot injuries.

“Our colleague and friend, Benedict Torngee Azza esq. (Barr B. T. Aza) is dead”.

According to him, he and others rushed after receiving news of the corpse of the victim lying along the bypass road near FRSC office in Gusau.

“B.T Azza’s body was lying in cold blood on the shoulder of the road with his capsized vehicle (a Lexus SUV) by the road”, Abubakar narrated.

The NBA Chairman noted that, personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) whose headquarters was within the area where the incident occurred, deposited the corpse at the mortuary of the Yariman Bakura Specialists Hospital, Gusau.

Radio Nigeria reports that, BT Azza was shot dead by two gunmen suspected to be kidnappers who rode on a motorcycle as revealed by the residents of the area.

Information gathered says the gunmen wanted kidnapping the victim at his house situated at Saminaka Area, behind FRSC headquarters, Bypass, Gusau but he escaped, driving to the road, but the gunmen pursued him and shot him dead.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Mohammed Shehu said, investigation had commenced to lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Zamfara State Government last week imposed a ban on motorcycles in some parts of Gusau, Zamfara state capital following an increase in bandits activities using motorcycles.
