Briefing by Executive Director Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr. Lawi Mshelia

Over two million children under the age of five have been immunised against polio in Borno state.

The Executive Director Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr Lawi Mshelia stated this at a media briefing in Maiduguri.

Dr. Mshelia said the state is scaling up its immunisation campaign following the detection of wild polio virus in two African countries of Malawi and Mozambique.

According to him, additional six rounds of the exercise will be carried out before the end of the year so as to boost the immunity of every child in the state.

“Borno state is not immune from cases of Variant Polio type 2, this is the reason why we still need to present our children under five years for vaccination during campaigns and to appeal to our caregivers to continously visit health facilities to complete routine Immunisation for their children ” Dr Lawi Mshelia stressed.

The Executive Director disclosed that all the three persons confirmed with Monkey pox have been treated and discharged.

He also announced the introduction of Rotavirus vaccine for the prevention of diarrhoea into routine immunisation.
