International Labour Organization, ILO has expanded employment opportunities for Nigerian women for equal socio-economic development in the country.

The Country Director, ILO, Ms Vanessa Phalla gave this indication in Abuja during the launch of a project tagged, “Promoting Gender Equality and Formalisation through Women’s Entrepreneurship Development in Nigeria”.

Ms Phalla explained that ILO recognized the critical role and contributions of women and the barriers they faced in the modern economic dynamics and designed the programme to empower women entrepreneurs for maximum impact in the society.

Ms Phalla identified six areas that have been built into the programme to impact positively in promoting women’s entrepreneurship development including policy formulation, legislation, access to finance and market, and institutional and business development services.

She stated that ILO is partnering with relevant stakeholders like Nigeria Employers Consultative Association NECA, Ministries of Labour and Employment and Women Affairs, NLC and TUC and the Conference of Informal Sector Employers for the success of the project.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Employment,

Mrs Tilda Mmegwa pledged the readiness of the ministry to work for the success of the programme.

The project launch which witnessed the participation of social partners such as the NECA, Ministry of Women Affairs, TUC, NLC and the Conference of Informal Sector Employers has twenty month implementation period.
