Nasarawa State Government has commenced distribution of working tools to over 1,400 poor and vulnerable households under the World Bank-assisted Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus, NG – CARES Programme.
At the launch of the programme in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, Governor Abdullahi Sule said the state government had set up an Inclusive Economic Recovery Programme to end poverty and hunger in the state.
Governor Sule, represented by the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Alhaji Yakubu Lawal said the state government had set up a sustainable template for addressing challenges and losses in labour income among poor and vulnerable households as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He called on the beneficiaries to exhibit strong commitment to utilising the offer to enhance speedy economic revival in their households.
Nasarawa State Coordinator, NG – CARES, Umar Dahiru Ibrahim explained that the beneficiaries were captured from rural communities under Labour Intensive Public Component of the programme.
He added that the selected youths and women whose educational qualifications did not go beyond primary school would be engaged in cleaning public facilities, especially schools, health centres, garbage and refuse collection as well as waste disposal in their various communities.
Each of the beneficiaries would be paid N10,000 monthly throughout the two-year period of the programme, he pledged.
