Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state has advised journalists to always cross check facts before using any story.

The governor gave the advice while reacting to a publication by Sahara Reporters alleging corruption and irregularities affecting the activities of Sokoto state Scholarships Board.

The report alleged that a Director, Foreign Students at the Sokoto State Scholarship Board, Kabiru Labaran is ‘removing’ part of tuition and upkeep allowance of a brilliant Sokoto state medical student in Russia.

Tambuwal refuted the Sahara Reporters publication stressing that the student Usman Yahya was initially studying Medicine in the Repulic of Sudan and later wrote a sponsorship letter seeking for relocation of his education to Russia which was approved by the state government in 2017and a letter was issued to him for continuation of his education in Russia.

Also responding, Executive Chairman of Sokoto state Scholarship Board, Alhaji Hassan Rabah said that information gathered by the scholarship board allegedly showed that the student got married to a Russian lady with issue and he is now looking for money to take care of his family.

He explained that the student was only trying to get more money from the government for his own personal interest.

According to him, the state government has paid all his tuition fees directly to the Irkutsk State Medical University Russia.

The student Usman Yahya recently posted a video footage in the social media appealing to the Sokoto state government to disregard any information from the social media.
