Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested two suspected vandals in separate intelligence-led operations in the state.

The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, disclosed this during a media briefing in Kano, saying the arrests were part of efforts to protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.

He identified the suspects as Gath Gamaliel, 22, of Zango, Kaduna State, and Salisu Jibrin, 31, of Kurna in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.

According to him, Gamaliel was arrested at Panshekara in Kumbotso Local Government Area with 17 vandalised railway clips suspected to have been removed from public infrastructure.

Agalama said Jibrin, who was suspected to be a receiver of stolen property, was arrested at Yankaba in Nassarawa Local Government Area when he arrived to collect about 60kg of suspected vandalised copper wire.

He said the items recovered from the suspects were believed to have been illegally removed from public infrastructure.

The commandant said the arrests demonstrated the NSCDC’s commitment to combating vandalism and other economic crimes capable of undermining national development.

He said investigations were ongoing to identify other members of the suspected criminal syndicates, adding that the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

Agalama warned those involved in the vandalism of public infrastructure to desist from the act, stressing that the command would continue to track down perpetrators.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information to security agencies to help protect critical national assets and infrastructure.
