The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says the Federal Government is yet to respond to the key demands after the expiration of the three weeks ultimatum given by the union.

The Abuja Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Dr Salahu Lawal stated this at a news conference at the Union’s Zonal Secretariat, the University of Abuja in Gwagwalada.

Dr Lawal said Federal government has ignited events that would lead to another round of national strikes by ignoring the outstanding issues in the MoU of December 2020, and the MoA of February 7, 2019.

According to him, more than one year since the Union suspended the Nine-month long national strike, the FG is yet to respond to the key demands.

“Our demands remain, the full implementation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU Agreement as renegotiated in 2021, based on ILO’s collective bargaining principles.

“The implementation of all outstanding provisions in 7th February 2021 FGN/ASUU Memorandum of Action. The immediate deployment of ASUU’S innovation of a more robust system of human resource management and compensation called the UTAS.

“Immediate payment of outstanding Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) and Promotions arrears to our members, immediate release of the report of the Presidential Visitation Panels to Federal Universities 2021 and immediate action on the recommendations of the Committee on State Universities,” he said.

Dr Lawal explained that meeting the key demands of ASUU would go a long way to address the deplorable conditions of public universities in the country.

He called on relevant stakeholders to urge the government to honour its agreement with ASUU in order to avert another likely industrial crisis in Nigerian universities.

The Abuja Zone of ASUU comprises the Federal University of Lafia, Federal University of Technology Minna, Nasarawa State University, keffi, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, and the University of Abuja.
