The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it has implemented security codes that will differentiate authentic election materials from counterfeit ones.

During a stakeholders meeting in Awka, INEC chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu also said any voter without a valid Permanent Voters Card (PVC) would not be eligible to vote.

He said, non-sensitive materials had been deployed to the state’s 21 local government areas, while  stakeholders would be invited to inspect senstive materials on the eve of the election.

34,587 police officers would be assisted by other security agencies to provide security on election day, Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, said at the meeting.

The IGP asked civilians not to be alarmed by the enormous deployment, stating that security agencies would be professional in their duties.

Mr Festus Okoye, National Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, asked the electorate to vote so that they could hold their leaders accountable if they were not performing effectively.

The meeting was attended by 4 of the 18 governorship contenders,  traditional, religious, and civil society members. as well as the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah.
