President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed delight with the successes, synergy in security operations against insurgents, bandits, secessionists, and other common criminals.

Speaking with State House correspondents after the security meeting, the National Security Adviser, NSA, retired Major General Babagana Monguno, said the President had directed them to speed up the pace of their mission.

Retired Major General Monguno said the meeting lasted for 5 hours and President Buhari warned them against lapses and disunity, emphasising that he would not like to leave office a failure.

He said the meeting noted the reduction in cases of kidnapping and banditry in the northwest, but that the President wanted them crushed completely.

Retired Major General Monguno said the recent killing of innocent commuters in Plateau State and the appropriate steps to be taken to forestall a recurrence came up for discussion, saying that President Buhari expressed confidence in Governor Simon Lalong’s ability to stabilise issues.

On the recent massive surrender of insurgents in Nigeria and northern Cameroun, the NSA declined to relay what the meeting discussed but said if Nigerians would see themselves as one people with a common destiny, socio-economic and security problems bedeviling the country would vanish into thin air.

The meeting, according to the NSA, also discussed issues of hunger and suffering in the land, in which the President said new strategies would be deployed to address them.
