At least twenty three people have died and while about two hundred and sixty five infected. by cholera outbreak across thirteen local government areas of Sokoto state.


State Commissioner for Health Dr.Ali Inname, who confirmed this said investigation revealed that the disease escalated because of the rainy season, contaminated water, open defecation and other poor sanitary practices.


He said the affected local government areas include Rabah, Wurno, Dange Shuni, Kebbe, Gwadabawa, Tangaza, Isa, Bodinga, Wamakko, Silame, Illela, Sabon Birni and Yabo.


Dr. Inname disclo that a team of environmental health officers and medical doctors have been ma to control the situation.


The Commissioner further said drugs and consumables were provided to cushion the effect of the disease.


The commissioner cautioned the public against the disease, stressing that cholera is highly contagious and can easily be transmitted from one person to another through casual contact.

He advised people to boil their drinking water, cover open wells against flooding and to report any case to nearby health centre and avoid home treatments.
