Governments at all levels have been urged to redouble efforts at reducing child mortality in the country.

Stakeholders at a workshop on Health Care Financing, Primary Health Care intervention and child health reporting for Media Working Groups in Jigawa State made the plea during the session.

The workshop which was held in Kano dwelt on public concerns over the increasing number of deaths among children between the ages of 1 to 5

In a submission, the Chief of Party Inspiring Program Officer in Jigawa state, Dr Adamu Isah noted that the program was aim at reducing the rate of child mortality in Nigeria.

He identified the common causes of child mortality in the country to include pneumonia, malaria and diarrhoea which were also frontline children killer diseases in some parts of Sub-saharan Africa.

Dr Adamu Isah pointed out that high level of ignorance on the part of caregivers and lack of commitment from the policy makers contributed to the problem.

According to him, the media has a great role to play in creating more awareness to caregivers and governments on measures to end the menace.

The Chief of Party Inspiring Program Officer, also urged media practitioners in Jigawa state to mobilize people on the dangers of Pneumonia and other child killer diseases.

He said the Inspiring Program has so far supported 60 Heath facilities with oxygen cylinders and pulse oximeters at two local governments areas in Jigawa and Lagos states.

Also speaking, the Manager inspiring project in jigawa state, Alhaji  Abdullahi Magama spoke on the situation analysis of Pneumonia in Jigawa state and report on the health facility assessment.

Magama solicited maximum support and cooperation from stakeholders, particularly the media, in the fight against Pneumonia in Jigawa state.

Some of the participants whom were drawn from FRCN, NTA, NAN, Channels Television, Print media and jigawa state broadcasting corporation spoke to Radio Nigeria commended the save the children Inspiring project for organising the workshop.
