National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC says it has destroyed fake drugs and counterfeit can products worth over 3 billion Naira in Kano State in the last two years.

NAFDAC Coordinator in Kano, Alhaji Shaba Mohammad stated this while briefing journalists in Kano.

He said illicit drugs, fake and counterfeit products were seized during various joint operations performed by the operatives of the agency and other stakeholders at different occasions.


Shaba Mohammad noted that the agency had recorded significant successes in the campaign against drug abuse that had been bedeviling the state in the past 10 years.

The coordinator maintained that for the first time in 10 years, Kano State has moved down to number six on the list of states with high rate of Drug abuse nationwide.

Mr. Mohammed said that the success was achieved as a result of collaboration with other stakeholders and security agencies working in the state.

The coordinator said NAFDAC was working closely with National drugs law enforcement agency, saying the collaboration had yielded positive results in achieving the set objectives.

He said NAFDAC in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Drug Abuse Club, NGOs and NDLEA went to the grassroots to train primary and secondary schools.
