Human Trafficking : NIS Rescues 8 Persons In Jigawa State

Nigeria Immigration Service says it has rescued 8 suspected victims of human trafficking on their way to Niger Republic in Jigawa state.

The state Comptroller, Ahmad Dauda Bagari disclosed this during a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Dutse, the Jigawa state capital.

According to him, the victims were intercepted by the command’s personnel along Kaya-Daurawa- Roni link Road in Jigawa state.

He explained that, the victims include five males and three females.

Ahmad Dauda Bagari further explained that, the victims aged 19 to 45 years were from Edo, Imo, Ogun and Abia states.

He said, among the victims only one person is in possession of an expired Nigerian standard passport.

The Comptroller added that, the victims mostly travelled without agent, but influenced by friends and with the knowledge of their parents and guardians.

He said, there were no incriminating items or drugs found in their possession upon interrogation.

Dauda Bagari said, the Comptroller General of the service had directed that the victims be handed over to NAPTIP.

He urged parents, guardians and the general public to instil patriotism in their wards to stay in their country of origin and build it to greater heights.

Bagari also called on the general public to report cases of human trafficking and other related criminal acts to the nearest security agencies.
