President Muhammadu Buhari has been praised by APC Legacy Awareness and Campaign, a think tank of the party, for his work on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The group acknowledged investments in renewable energy and afforestation, as well as efforts to reduce the use of fossil fuels in cooking and agriculture.

President Muhammadu Buhari has made Nigeria the first African government to issue a Sovereign Green Bond, worth N10.69 billion in 2017, and a second Sovereign Green Bond, worth N15 billion in 2019, according to a statement by a founding member of the organisation, Mr Ismaeel Ahmed.

He hailed President Buhari’s recognition as a global climate action leader particularly in light of a recent TIME Magazine article that acknowledged Nigeria’s role in the cause, and testimony from American billionaire Jeff Bezos.

Mr Ahmed added that the 2022 budget was the first “climate-responsive” budget in the history of the country, which he claimed would complement other initiatives of the government in addressing climate change.
