The Zamfara State Police Command has launched a coordinated rescue operation following the abduction of six Islamic clerics along the Dakko–Damri feeder road in Bakura Local Government Area of the State.
The victims, all identified as Imams, were abducted on Saturday, 12th September 2026, while travelling to Talata Marafa.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, who disclosed this in a statement, explained that, the incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. when armed bandits, reportedly wielding sophisticated weapons, ambushed the vehicle conveying the clerics.
According to him, upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Bakura Division immediately mobilised police personnel, including operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit, VCRU, in collaboration with other sister security agencies.
He said the security teams had commenced an intensive search operation, combing surrounding bushes and other suspected locations in an effort to rescue the abducted Imams and apprehend the perpetrators.
The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP A. M. Bello, directed the operatives involved in the operation to intensify their efforts and deploy all available resources towards securing the safe release of the victims.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to provide credible and timely information that could assist the security agencies in locating and rescuing the abducted clerics and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
