Muslims across the country have been urged to actively participate in the forthcoming general elections to prevent incompetent and unqualified politicians from emerging as leaders at various levels of government.

The Chief Imam of Barakallahu Jummaat Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Aminu Saleh, made the call during his sermon shortly after leading the two Raka’at Eid-el-Kabir prayers held at

Barakallahu central primary school Eid ground.

The Islamic cleric stressed that voter apathy remains one of the major setbacks to democratic growth and good governance, warning that failure by eligible citizens to participate in the electoral process could undermine the country’s quest for meaningful progress and development.

According to him, citizens must see voting not only as a constitutional right but also as a civic responsibility capable of shaping the future of the nation.

Sheikh Saleh particularly advised youths to shun political thuggery, violence, hate speech, and other activities capable of disrupting peaceful campaigns and elections.

He noted that sustainable development and national unity could only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.

He further urged politicians and public office holders to govern with the fear of God, honesty, and accountability, emphasizing that leadership should be centered on service to the people rather than personal or political interests.

The cleric also cautioned against the politicisation of security matters, saying security challenges should be handled with sincerity and collective commitment in the interest of national stability.

Speaking on the conduct of the elections, Sheikh Saleh maintained that the polls would only be credible, free, and fair if all stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies, electoral officials, and voters, remained neutral and adhered strictly to the rules guiding the electoral process.

He called on Nigerians to continue praying for peace, unity, and successful elections across the country.
