Bayero University Kano has expressed its readiness to partner with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to support the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections in 2027.

The university said the collaboration reflects its commitment to strengthening democratic processes through the provision of essential human resources and institutional support to the electoral body.

The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Haruna Musa, stated this during a courtesy visit by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Kano State, Abdu Zango.

Professor Musa reaffirmed the institution’s willingness to support INEC in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the visit, Zango commended Bayero University for its longstanding contributions to electoral integrity in Kano State.

He noted that the successful conduct of free, fair, and credible elections in the state would be difficult without the active involvement and support of institutions such as BUK.

The REC described the university as a critical stakeholder in strengthening democracy and electoral transparency in Kano State.

As part of the collaboration, Zango formally requested the university’s support in providing a venue for a three-day voter registration exercise scheduled to hold within the university premises.

The exercise, targeted at residents of Ungogo Local Government Area, is expected to take place from June 2 to June 4, 2026.

Responding, Prof. Musa assured the electoral commission of the university’s continued cooperation and reaffirmed BUK’s determination to contribute meaningfully toward ensuring credible and transparent elections in 2027.

The partnership further highlights the growing collaboration between academic institutions and electoral bodies in promoting democratic governance and civic participation in Nigeria.
