The Chairman of the Senatorial Primary Election Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Professor Bala Ishaq, has announced the winners of the party’s senatorial primaries held across the three districts, describing the exercise as peaceful and successful.
Speaking during the official declaration of results in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, Professor Ishaq said the Zamfara Central Senatorial District recorded a total of 136,419 votes cast.
According to him, Ikra Aliyu Bilbis emerged winner after polling 127,686 votes, defeating Lubna Muhammad, who scored 140 votes, and Aliyu Akilu Muhammad, who garnered 8,593 votes.
In Zamfara West Senatorial District, Professor Ishaq announced that a total of 125,311 votes were cast. Abdulaziz Yari secured a landslide victory with 125,235 votes, while his opponent, Nasiru Zarumi, polled 76 votes.
Declaring the results for Zamfara North Senatorial District, the committee chairman said the election, conducted on May 19, 2026, saw Sahabi Alhaji Yau emerge winner with a total of 65,642 votes across the local government areas. Other contestants included Hannafi Musa Moriki, Sani Abdullahi, and Tijjani Yahaya, who recorded significantly lower votes.
Professor Ishaq noted that the primary elections were conducted in a transparent and orderly manner, with no cases of violence or major disputes reported across the state.
“We have successfully concluded the exercise. There was no violence or misunderstanding among contestants,” he said.
He, however, urged any aggrieved aspirants to channel their complaints through the party’s appeal committee, which is scheduled to commence sittings on May 28, 2026, at the same venue.
The committee chairman also commended party members, stakeholders, and the media for their cooperation and support throughout the exercise, as well as the Zamfara State government and residents for providing a peaceful environment for the conduct of the primaries.
He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to due process and internal democracy as preparations continue for the forthcoming general elections.
