Governor Dauda Lawal has approved the constitution of a 10-member Amirul Hajj Committee to oversee the 2026 Hajj operations and ensure the welfare of pilgrims from Zamfara State.

The Secretary to the State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, said the committee is tasked with monitoring the activities of the State Hajj Commission and coordinating sub-committees to guarantee the overall wellbeing of Zamfara pilgrims throughout the exercise.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Sulaiman Ahmad Tudu explained that, the first batch of intending pilgrims will depart for Jeddah on Friday, May 15, 2026, from the Gusau International Airport.

He noted that the development marks a historic milestone, as it will be the first time pilgrims from Zamfara State will fly directly to the Holy Land from within the state.

Nakwada said, the Amirul Hajj Committee is chaired by the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, who will serve as Leader of the Delegation. The Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad, will serve as Deputy Leader.

Other members of the committee include Nura Dahiru Birnin Magaji, Kamilu Saidu; the Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Suleman Adamu Gummi; Malam Saidu Maikwano; Bello Aliyu Acha; two women representatives; and Sanusi Umar Karakkai, who will serve as Secretary.

Governor Lawal has charged the committee to ensure strict compliance with both Nigerian and Saudi Arabian regulations throughout the 2026 Hajj exercise.

He also urged members to work diligently in providing effective coordination and support services that will guarantee a smooth and successful pilgrimage for all Zamfara contingents.
