The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to human capital development through inclusive, skills-based education with the commissioning of the ISDB–UBEC Bilingual Education Boarding School in Kiru Local Government Area of Kano State.
Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad,disclosed it during the Official Commissioning of Kiru Bilingual Educational Boarding School held at Kiru local government area of Kano State.
She said investment in education remains a core pillar of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s transformation agenda, aimed at equipping Nigerian children with relevant skills for global competitiveness.
Professor Suwaiba explained that the establishment of bilingual model schools nationwide reflects the government’s resolve to provide learners with linguistic, vocational and digital competencies, noting that multilingual education prepares students for participation in diverse social and economic systems.
The Minister maintained that the initiative aligns with efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children while improving learning outcomes through modern teaching methods, urging the Kiru community to take ownership of the school to ensure its sustainability.
The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Aisha Garba, said the Kiru facility is one of 30 Bilingual Education Model Schools being constructed across nine states, with Kano hosting four schools located in Doguwa, Ganduje, Ungoggo and Kiru.
According to her, the schools integrate English and Arabic literacy with Technical and Vocational Education, ICT-driven learning and safe boarding facilities, each designed to accommodate over 1,000 students with comprehensive academic, residential and support infrastructure.
Aisha Garba described the commissioning as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s resolve to guarantee access to safe, inclusive and quality education for every Nigerian child, while assuring continued UBEC support in teacher engagement, school management and monitoring.
Also speaking, the Director-General, Corporate Services of the Islamic Development Bank, Dr Mohammed Simsim, and Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, pledged sustained collaboration to ensure effective utilisation of the school, which is expected to expand access to quality education and reduce out-of-school children in Kano State and beyond.
