The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has organized a unity football match as part of activities commemorating the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

The event brought together security agencies, development partners, and other stakeholders in a show of solidarity and collective commitment to ending gender-based violence in Zamfara State.

Speaking after the match, the NAPTIP Commander in Zamfara State, Ali Abubakar Sarkin Sudan, said the initiative was designed to strengthen collaboration among security agencies and raise public awareness on the importance of reporting cases of gender-based violence.

Ali Sarkin Sudan explained that the match formed a key part of NAPTIP’s activities for the global campaign, noting that synergy among security bodies was essential in the fight against all forms of abuse.

“We organized this match to foster synergy among security agencies and partners working to combat gender-based violence. We also want to enlighten the public that such cases should never be ignored. People must report incidents to the appropriate authorities for necessary action,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to all participating organizations for honoring the invitation, describing their presence as a strong demonstration of unity and commitment to confronting what he called the global pandemic of gender-based violence.

Also speaking, Mohammed Fodiyo Zubairu from the Substance Abuse Control and Prohibition of Human Trafficking Agency expressed satisfaction with the collaboration among agencies.

He reaffirmed their readiness to tackle the menace and emphasized the importance of timely information-sharing among security operatives.

Zubairu further encouraged agencies to adopt similar friendly matches as a way of promoting unity and strengthening cooperation while carrying out their duties.

Representatives from other security outfits, including the Nigeria Police Force, also commended NAPTIP for the initiative.

ASP Buba Bukar, who represented the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, highlighted the importance of collective efforts in protecting vulnerable individuals.

“The match was organized through unity and mutual understanding, and I personally enjoyed it. I wish everyone well. We have worked together for a long time, and events like this strengthen our partnership. Every agency has a role to play in safeguarding lives.”

Players similarly expressed delight at the success of the event.

Mr. Oyagwa Sampson, one of the participants, described the match as lively, peaceful, and injury-free.

“It was a wonderful and fair game. We appreciate the organizers for bringing everyone together. This unity match shows that we can collaborate beyond our official duties,” he said.

Similarly, Bello Abdul’aziz of the NDLEA commended the turnout of sister agencies and called for regular friendly matches among security outfits as a way of enhancing unity and cooperation.

The football match ended in a friendly atmosphere, with all participants reaffirming their commitment to sustained advocacy and joint action against all forms of gender-based violence.
