The Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) has intensified its public health outreach with a new round of orientation and sensitisation for traditional barbers across the state, aimed at strengthening early detection and reporting of diphtheria cases.

Speaking during the session, the Director-General of KNCDC, Dr. Muhammad Adamu Abbas, described traditional barbers as vital partners in disease surveillance due to their daily contact with large segments of the population.

He noted that increased understanding of diphtheria transmission, early identification of symptoms, and prompt reporting of suspected cases are crucial to curbing the spread of the infection. Dr. Abbas reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding community health through continuous engagement with frontline workers.

The Sarkin Askan Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Yunusa Nabango, welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. He said the training would significantly boost public health by reducing communicable diseases at the grassroots level.

Some participants, including Sadiwu Magaji from Wudil and Hajara Muhammad Yunus, told Radio Nigeria that they were committed to applying the knowledge gained and cascading it to others to achieve the programme’s objectives.

The sensitisation training forms part of KNCDC’s broader efforts to enhance public awareness, improve preventive practices, and ensure a timely response to public health threats across the state.
