Jigawa State Government has approved the initiation of the process to obtain operational licenses for the establishment of five new microfinance banks in selected locations across the state.

The State Commissioner Information, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed stated this to newsmen in Dutse.

According to him, the initiative is part of the state government’s broader strategy to expand financial access and deepen economic participation in rural and underserved communities.

He explained that, the proposed microfinance banks would be established in Birniwa, Gujungu–Taura, Guri, Gwaram and Kaugama local government areas.

He said, the council decision reflects the commitment of Governor Umar Namadi’s administration effort in promoting financial inclusion as a tool for poverty reduction, local enterprise development, and grassroots economic empowerment.

Sagir said, the new miicrofinance is aimed to complement existing microfinance banks in the state, providing financial services such as savings, credit, and small business support to individuals and communities that are traditionally excluded from the formal banking system.

He further explained that, the council has also approved the award of contract for the technical audit, critical assessments, and planning of rooftop solar installations across critical social institutions in the state.

He said, the contract is valued at over 733 million naira, adding that the approval is in line with the objectives of the state interventions solar solution programme, which is designed to expand solar electrification to critical sectors such as education, healthcare, and other essential public facilities across nigeria.

The Commissioner said, the technical audit and planning phase will provide a comprehensive assessment of energy needs, infrastructure suitability, and implementation frameworks for the deployment of rooftop solar systems in selected schools, healthcare centres, and other vital public institutions across Jigawa State.

He added that, the project reflects the administration of Namadi’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions, climate-resilient infrastructure, and improved service delivery in essential sectors.

He said, it also aligns with the Governor’s broader 12-point agenda, particularly in strengthening access to reliable power for development.
