Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has led a delegation from the Nigeria Solid Minerals Company (NSMC) to the White House for high-level talks with United States officials aimed at expanding investment in Nigeria’s mining sector.

The delegation met with Special Assistant to the US President and Senior Director for Global Supply Chain, David Copley, at the US National Security Council, and Diana London of DCI Group to explore opportunities for strengthening strategic cooperation between both countries.

According to a statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Lara Owoeye-Wise, the discussions focused on advancing collaboration across the critical minerals value chain.

The talks covered geological exploration, mining, mineral processing, value addition and refining.

Both sides also discussed strengthening secure and resilient supply chains for critical minerals needed to support the global energy transition.

The engagement aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic diversification, industrialisation, job creation and the attraction of strategic foreign investment.

The statement said the meeting reinforces the growing U.S.-Nigeria partnership through investment-driven cooperation that supports sustainable mineral development, local value addition and shared economic prosperity.

It added that the NSMC delegation’s visit to Washington underscores Nigeria’s commitment to positioning itself as a key player in the global critical minerals market amid rising demand for resources used in electric vehicle batteries, renewable energy technologies and other clean energy applications.
