In a renewed effort to enhance rural infrastructure and improve the living standards of its citizens, the Kaduna State Government has commissioned new rural water supply facilities across Giwa and Kudan Local Government Areas.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Kaduna State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, RUWASA, saw the official inauguration of solar-powered and hand pump boreholes in five under served communities.

The Director General of RUWASA, Engineer Mubarak Shehu Ladan who led the commissioning ceremony, reiterated government’s commitment to sustainable rural development.

The commissioned facilities according to him included, solar-powered boreholes at Tudun Wada in Shika Ward, Giwa LGA, and the General Hospital, Hunkuyi, hand pump boreholes in Ungwar Rimi, Matarawa, and Tsamiya communities in Kudan LGA.

According to Engr. Ladan, the intervention aligns with the state government’s rural development agenda, especially in recognizing water as a fundamental driver of public health and economic productivity.

“Yes, the essence of our visit is to commission these solar motorized boreholes that have been provided for the people.

“Water is a basic necessity of life, and today we are here to hand over this facility to the communities for their benefit and use,” Engr. Ladan said.

He explained that the water projects were executed based on a needs assessment conducted by the agency, which revealed the acute shortage of potable water in the affected areas due to prolonged neglect, and is expected to benefit over twenty thousand people.

The DG disclosed that many of the facilities were made possible through his personal humanitarian and philanthropic efforts as part of effort to improve access to clean drinking water and curb the spread of water related ailments in those areas.

Engr. Ladan urged the benefiting communities to take full ownership of the projects by safeguarding them against vandalism, adding that effective community involvement in operation and maintenance is key to sustainability.

“We have done our part as a government. Now, it’s the responsibility of the communities to operate and maintain these facilities to ensure long-term benefit,”

“You can’t talk about rural development without the provision of water, and for us in RUWASA, that is our core mandate,” he noted.

The Water Sanitation Coordinator of Giwa LGA, Mr. Ibrahim Fatika, alongside the Medical Director of Hunkuyi General Hospital, Dr. Charles Uzomah, and the hospital’s Matron, Hajia Binta Yusuf Sani, commended RUWASA for the intervention.

They acknowledged that the facilities would significantly improve health outcomes and eliminate the persistent water shortages faced by residents and patients.

The traditional and religious leaders particularly from Shika in Giwa local government and Hunkuyi in Kudan local government areas, alongside representatives of the local government chairmen and community members, also expressed their appreciation.

Community members were seen chanting support for both Governor Uba Sani and Engr. Mubarak Ladan in recognition of their life-changing contributions.

The event concluded with goodwill messages and prayers for continued guidance and success for the current administration.
