Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has declared open the 2025 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Jigawa branch, with a call for stronger ethical practices and faster justice delivery in the state’s legal system.

Speaking at the opening ceremony in Dutse, Governor Namadi commended the NBA leadership for fostering unity and professionalism, noting its role in promoting the rule of law and access to justice for all, including the less privileged.

The governor described this year’s theme, “Upholding Justice Through Ethical Advocacy”, as timely, stressing its relevance in guiding legal practitioners towards maintaining high ethical standards and avoiding practices that hinder justice delivery.

Namadi highlighted his administration’s ongoing reforms in the justice sector, including the establishment of Community Law Centres, the introduction of Zauren Sulhu mediation platforms, and plans to expand Citizens’ Rights Units across judicial divisions.

He urged stakeholders in the justice system to discharge their duties with diligence and accountability, reminding them of their ultimate responsibility to the Almighty, whom he described as “Al-Adl, the Utterly Just” and “Al-Hakam, the Ultimate Judge”.

The governor also commended the NBA Law Week for fostering dialogue among lawyers and other justice sector stakeholders, saying such engagements help strengthen ethical practices and professional growth.

He expressed confidence that the discussions during the Law Week would lead to improved justice delivery and greater adherence to ethical standards in Jigawa State.

Governor Namadi wished the NBA a successful event, assuring the association of his administration’s continued support in promoting reforms and the smooth dispensation of justice in the state.
