Kano State Government KNSG has commenced a refresher course for 72 secondary school teachers on modern fish farming, aimed at equipping them to train students in entrepreneurial and self-reliance skills.

Declaring the programme open , the Commissioner for Education, Dr Ali Makoda, explained that the initiative is part of the government’s commitment to preparing students for life after graduation.

According to Makoda, the participants all fisheries teachers will take the knowledge gained back to their classrooms through a “step-down” training for students.

“Vocational skills are the most effective means of improving students’ livelihoods, especially at this time. This government is initiating more ways to provide students with the necessary skills to become self-reliant and sustain their families in future,”

The commissioner stressed that Kano’s large population, if properly harnessed, could become a driver of economic growth, adding that education is central to the administration’s development agenda.

He also commended Governor Abba Yusuf for providing the ministry with the necessary support to deliver on its mandate.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Bashir Muhammed, noted that the state has introduced measures to enhance the quality of education, while the Director of the Kano Educational Resource Department, Rabi Inuwa Hussain, outlined the objectives of the training centre and its benefits to students.

As part of the programme, the commissioner inspected newly established fish ponds where participants received practical, hands-on lessons in modern fish farming techniques.
