A former Federal Commissioner with the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Mohammed Abdulmalik Durunguwa, has clarified that the true origin of the much-discussed River Gurara, from which the name of the proposed Gurara State is derived, can clearly be traced to Abet Community in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, contrary to earlier claims by some public commentators.

Dr. Durunguwa gave the assertion when he received Leadership of the Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) on a Courtesy Visit in Kaduna.

According to the former NPC official, the River Gurara starts from Abet, through Angwar Rimi, to Tsoriyang communities all in Zango Kataf LGA down to the Gurara Dam in Kagarko before proceeding to Nigeria State.

The former NPC Federal Commissioner also spoke about the economic potentials of Southern Kaduna where he said the huge potentials of the zone are yet to be tapped.

“We have an area that is blessed. Even the human beings, we are blessed, but we are refusing to harness these things. And we don’t have leaders that can help us harness it. We only have people who are interested in trying to know the difference I have with you very well and use it. So that they will get what they want. We have 20,000 natural resources that are yet to be even tapped or even refined.

Dr. Abdulmalik Durunguwa, said the people using religion and ethnicity in their political affairs, cannot impact anything positive to the society. They can only do that for their selfish gains.

He therefore commented NCYP for the visit and coming up with the idea that can reform and readdress the negative mindset of both youth and leaders to having a better perspective on how growth and development can be achieved.

Earlier, Chairman, of the Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP), Mr. Isaac Abrak, stated that the visit was a move to strengthen bridges of unity and foster collaboration across ethno-religious lines in Northern Nigeria and the country at large by engaging with critical stakeholders across religious and political divide towards promoting national cohesion, peaceful coexistence, and responsible democratic governance.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s progress hinges on inclusive leadership and a collective commitment to justice, equity, and good governance.

“Our engagement with respected voices like You Sir, reflects our belief that unity is possible when leaders from all backgrounds come together with sincerity of purpose,” Mr. Abrak stated.
“As young professionals, we are determined to serve as a bridge between communities and promote a vision of Nigeria that is anchored on mutual respect, transparency, and democratic values.”

Similarly the group payed yet another courtesy visit to the Director General of Kaduna Investment and Finance Company KIFC, Mrs. Francesca Musa Akande where Mr. Abrak to seek collaboration where he reaffirmed the organization’s two-fold mandate: For political participation to influence positive change in governance and public welfare; and to advocate for inclusiveness, religious harmony, and peaceful coexistence.

On her part, Director General of the Kaduna Investment and Financial Company Mrs. Francesca Musa Akande commended NCYP for its proactive engagement and noble vision.

She stressed the move by the organization will assist governments efforts in doing the right things to the people and discharged it’s democratic dividends both at the state and at the federal level.

“Thank you for this honor of working with NCYP, I know I’m not going to make promises, but I just know we’ll make a difference. I don’t take it lightly. I see it as a very great, great honor to work together with this very noble body.”
