Governors in the Northern geopolitical zone have been advised to prevail on the Federal Government to ensure the completion of the Ajaokuta–Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Gas Pipeline project to boost electricity generation and economic development.

The advice was given by a financial expert, Professor Yusha’u Ibrahim Ango, during an interview in Kaduna.

He also emphasized the need for the Bauchi and Gombe State Governments to fast-track ongoing oil exploration efforts in their regions to ensure adequate gas supply for industrialization.

Professor Yusha’u Ango was concerned that out of about five thousand megawatts of electricity generated in the country, the northern states get less than one thousand while Lagos State enjoys three thousand megawatts.

The financial expert suggested establishment of smaller grids for effective power generation to complement the national grid which he noted was unreliable despite huge public expenditure for regular maintenance.

Professor Yusha’u Ango called for investigation of the sale of power assets in the past without proper documentation and payment by the buyers described as powerful elite which resulted in constant power shortage nationwide.
