Governors of the Northern states have been advised to allocate funds for the establishment of power generation and distribution companies, in line with the Federal Government’s move to decentralize the power sector.

The advice was given by a former member of the National Assembly, Senator Mas’ud El-Jibril Doguwa, during an interview in Kaduna.

Senator Doguwa, who is also a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, explained that creating such companies would boost electricity supply, drive industrialization, and generate employment across the region.

The Former Legislator who commended the Federal Government for such gesture, expressed the hope that effective generation and distribution of electricity in the zone would facilitate processing of agro-allied products to generate revenue.

Senator Mas’ud El-Jibril, however, stressed the need for the Governors to ensure transparency and accountability in public expenditure, considering claims by the Presidency that they were to blame for socio-economic challenges of the country.

He expressed support for calls by some individuals urging the Federal Government to immortalize former President, the late Alhaji Shehu Shagari, for his immense contributions to national development, describing him as God-fearing, humble, and selfless.
