Wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has been appointed as the National Secretary of the First Ladies Against Cancer (FLAC) initiative, a coalition of Nigerian First Ladies committed to combating cancer through advocacy, policy reform, and direct community intervention.
According to a statement by the Press Secretary to the Wife of the Governor, Hajiya Rabi’atu Yusuf, the appointment is a strong recognition of her exceptional contributions to healthcare development, particularly in cancer awareness, prevention, and care in Zamfara State and beyond.
In her new national role, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal will collaborate with other First Ladies to intensify advocacy and mobilize resources aimed at strengthening cancer care systems, especially in underserved communities.
According to the statement, her appointment followed the recent FLAC Cancer Support Donation Ceremony held at the Imo State House in Asokoro, Abuja, where members of the coalition discussed strategies to improve survivor services and expand early detection campaigns across the country.
It says the Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal has championed numerous impactful initiatives targeting vulnerable populations.
Under her leadership, Zamfara State has recorded significant strides in cancer prevention efforts, including free breast cancer screenings, statewide awareness campaigns, and the full sponsorship of surgeries for over 100 cancer patients.

The statement reveals that, the donation ceremony in Abuja featured the presentation of financial support to two leading cancer support organizations, the Network of People Impacted by Cancer in Nigeria (NePICiN) and the Health & Psychological Trust Center—underscoring FLAC’s dedication to improving the lives of cancer patients and survivors.
Chairperson of FLAC and First Lady of Imo State, Mrs Chioma Hope Uzodimma, described the initiative as “a profound investment in life, dignity, and health equity.”
She was joined by other prominent First Ladies including H.E. Lami Ahmadu Fintiri (Vice Chairperson, FLAC), H.E. Dr. Linda Ayade, H.E. Monica Ugwuanyi, H.E. Hajiya Zainab Nasir Idris, H.E. Agyin Kefas, and the newly appointed FLAC Secretary, H.E. Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal.
Her Excellency’s elevation to this national position not only underscores her growing influence in the field of health advocacy but also reaffirms Zamfara State’s leadership in women-driven public health transformation.
