National Union of Pensioners has given a two-week ultimatum to the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to pay all outstanding arrears as directed by the Federal Government.
The Chairman of the Lagos Branch of the NIPOST Pensioners Association, Mr. Mukaila Ogunbote, warned that union members would embark on a protest if the arrears are not paid after the deadline.
Mr. Ogunbote expressed concern that despite several reminders, PTAD has refused to settle the approved arrears of ₦32,000 and ₦25,000, which were designated by the Federal Government as palliatives to cushion the effects of recent economic policies that have caused hardship for citizens.
The NIPOST pensioners Association Chairman explained that the protests had been scheduled for Tafawa Balewa Square Lagos and PTAD officers including the ministry of Finance.
An official of the directorate who reacted to the ultimatum suggested dialogue to address the problem rather than confrontation by the union.
