Jigawa State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government has commenced its oversight tour of the state’s 27 local government councils for the 2026 fiscal year.

The exercise began with an inspection visit to Kaugama Local Government Area.

The committee’s oversight function is aimed at monitoring and investigating the activities of the executive arm, including ministries, departments and agencies, to ensure accountability and good governance.

Speaking at the Kaugama Local Government Secretariat, Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Aminu Zakari, said the exercise would focus on the assessment of administrative and financial records covering the period from April 2025 to May 2026.

He explained that the committee would also evaluate projects executed by local government councils to ensure prudent use of public funds and compliance with state laws and policies.

According to him, the committee has, for the first time, co-opted an engineer from the State Due Process and Project Monitoring Bureau to participate in the exercise.

He noted that the engineer would assess ongoing and completed projects to ensure adherence to approved specifications and due process regulations.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Kaugama Local Government Council, Alhaji Usman Masaki Dan-Sule, commended the State House of Assembly for effectively carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

He expressed optimism that the oversight visit would contribute positively to the development and efficient administration of local government councils across the state.
