The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in Niger state has assured people of the state that it has taken rigorous steps to ensure that it deliver a credible, inclusive, verifiable and transparent elections in the twenty twenty seven General Election.
To this end, the Commission said it had identified the shortcomings both logistical and otherwise of some elections conducted and that all the elements that contribute in denting the image of credible electoral process are being addressed holistically.
Chairman of the Commission, Dr Oliver Tersoo Agundu gave the assurance during an interactive session with Civil Society Organisations CSO’s and the Media at its office headquarters at David Mark road Tunga, Minna the state capital.
Dr Oliver Tersoo Agudu however explained that election can only be credible if is inclusive and participatory and that people can only participate if they feel safe in coming out to cast their votes, stressing that everything is being done in partnership with Heads of Security Agencies in Niger state to ensure that security is provided for people to come out and participate fully and safely.
On the Internally Displaced Persons IDP’s the Resident Electoral Commissioner In Charge of Niger state, said they are developing modalities and strategy to ensure that those group of persons were fully covered in the electoral process, as no Nigerian will be dis enfranchised.
Dr Oliver Tersoo Agundu, explained that people with disabilities are to be given greater consideration to exercise their fundamental human rights, as a Braille sheet was also tested during the engagement in which it’s reliability was confirmed by a member of people with sight problem, the blind.
While calling on people in Niger state to take advantage of the window created by INEC to come out and register to get their Permanent Voter Card PVC’s added that over two million six and thirty three thousand Voter Cards have been collected from twenty twenty three to date while over sixty nine thousand have remained uncollected even though the process of registration and collection were ongoing.
