Borno state correspondent of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria FRCN, Dauda Iliya has been elected as Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Borno Council to steer the affairs of the Union for the next three years. 

Dauda Iliya polled 92 votes to defeat Babagana Bukar of Borno Radio Television BRTV who garnered 74 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Dauda Iliya promised to restore the integrity of the union, improve welfare and capacity of members as well as build partnership with governmental and non-governmental organisations. 

He called for unity among members to project the Council to greater heights. 

“Though we have our idiosyncrasies and preferences before the election, now that the election is over, I want us to gravitate our differences to the unity, progress and development of the Union. 

Other officials elected are Vice Chairman Abdulkareem Haruna, Secretary Ciroma Ibrahim, Assistant Secretary Ma’aji Assistant, Treasurer Hauwa Bata, Financial Secretary Babagana Ali and Auditor Bawa Gana Liman.
