Stakeholders in education have charged government to provide alternative funding to girl child education in Kano as education is the backbone of every society.

They made the call during an interactive session with civil society organizations and government officials on timely release of funds and implementation of girl child education 2022 budget, held in Kano.

Radio Nigeria’s correspondent reports that the meeting discussed the relative budgetary provisions allocated to girl’s education and looked into bottlenecks and other bureaucratic processes that hinders release of funds.

In her remarks, co- chair of the Girl Child Education Partnership (GEP) in Kano, Hajiya Mero Bello, explained that the interactive session paved way for stakeholders to brain storm on various ways that would fast track timely release of funds towards successful enrollment, retention and completion of girl’s education at all levels.

“Some MDAs do not know that there is an allocation for girl child education in kano 2022 budget”

Also speaking, another co chair of GEP, Dr. Kabiru Shehu promised to reach out to Kano State Road Traffic Agency- karota, for timely implementation of the directives from the executive on the repair of girl child school buses.

“As soon as I get the approaval papers, I will be able to get the #12.5 million from KAROTA for the repairs”

In her vote of thanks, Hajiya Hajara Sulaiman from Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn, commended members of the GEP committee for their dedication in advocating for the upliftment of girl’s education in the state.

She reiterated PERL’s readiness to partner with relevant stakeholders in moving girl’s education to international standard.

Meanwhile, during the meeting a sub committee was constituted to reach out to private organizations for their corporate social responsibilities on the subject matter.

The interactive session was conducted under the leadership of co chairs of GEP, and witnessed large turn out of government officials from ministries and departments, teachers and students as well as non governmental organizations.
