House of Representatives Adhoc Committee investigating the status of Nigerian refineries has threatened to invoke arrest warrants against the Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva, the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Mallam Mele Kyari and the General Managers of the Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna refineries.
The leading oil officials are accused of failing to honour the invitation of the House committee over a $3.7 billion contract to rehabilitate the country’s three refineries.
The Chairman of the Committee, Ganiyu Johnson, made the disclosure during a news briefing on the failure of the invitees to appear before it.
According to Mr Johnson, this is the third time the invitees are ignoring the invitation, saying it is disregarding of the committee and the National Assembly as an institution.
The house, he said, was keen to find out why despite the huge amount spent on the repairs of the three refineries – Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna – Nigeria still imports refined petroleum products for its domestic use.
The committee then resolved to summon the four senior oil and gas officials on Thursday, next week, failure upon which “constitutional measures” would be taken against them.
