National Human Rights Commission-NHRC has stressed the need for the adoption of human rights approach to all activities and operations of government.

Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr Tony Ojukwu made the call in Kaduna at a town hall meeting in commemoration of this year’s international human rights day with the theme: Equality-Reducing Inequalities, Advancing Human Rights.

Represented by Kaduna State Co-ordinator Mr Terngu Gwar, the Executive Secretary explained that the principle of non-discrimination is the pivot upon which all advocacies and other promotional activities of the Commission rotate.

Mr Tony Ojukwu maintained that the Commission had issued several compliance advisories, conducted researches, monitored places of detention, conducted trainings for law enforcement agencies and advocated legislative reforms among others.

He pointed out that the Commission has put in place the National Action Plan and Strategic work plan with implementation guide.

The Executive Secretary said the Commission had established offices across the country for visibility and ease of access by all Nigerians.

Mr Tony Ojukwu added that the theme resonates on the sixteen days of activism on ending violence against women and girls.
