Academic Staff Union of Federal College of Education. COEASU, Zaria chapter has presented a cheque of fifteen million four hundred and forty-four thousand naira to eight families of its deceased members.

Presenting the Cheque to the beneficiaries, Chairman of the Union Comrade Haliru Musa said in Zaria that the gesture was to ameliorate hardship faced by the families of its deceased members.

He explained that the money was being contributed by the academic staff of the college as way of identifying with the families.

Comrade Haliru said each member of the union contributed a specified amount of money which gave the total sum of fifteen million four hundred and forty-four thousand Naira and was shared to eight families of the deceased members.

According to him, each family have received a cheque of One million nine hundred and thirty thousand naira while urging them to used the money judiciously, and prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest.

In a remark, the Acting Provost of the college, Dr Suleiman Balarabe who lauded the effort of the Union for the kind gesture and advised them not to relent, also called on other Unions in the college to emulate the gesture in the spirit of unity and brotherliness.

Dr Balarabe appealed to beneficiaries to ensure adequate utilisation of the fund especially by providing quality education to their children.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Radio Nigeria expressed gratitude for the gesture.
