Kano state government says it will fine and prosecute filling stations without fire fighting equipments.

Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje made the disclosure while visiting those affected by the fire outbreak on Saturday as a result of tanker explosion at a filling station in Kano.

Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje expressed deep sorrow over the incident, adding that the state government would provide free medical services to victims.

He said modalities had been put in place to ensure
that business owners and staff of filling stations recieve the necessary skills and capacity building workshops to avoid future occurance.

According to him, any filling station found guilty of not adhering to laid down rules and regulations will face the law.

In a remark, the general manager of the affected filling station Alhaji Muhammad Akibu apologized to the government and people of kano state over the incident.

He commended the federal and state fire services for prompt response, noting that the management and staff of the filling station would do everything possible to assist the victims.

Radio Nigeria recalls that the fire outbreak which affected over 70 people has led to the death of one person while more victims kept trooping to Murtala Muhammad specialist hospital for medical attention after the state government’s announcement free treatment for the injured.
