Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger state has presented two hundred and fifty million naira cheques to thẹ families of thirty seven miners that loss their lives in custody ọf thẹ Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
Thẹ Governor who stated this at a symbolic presentation ọf thẹ cheque held at thẹ Government House Minna, said they arẹ also waiting for the two hundred and fifty million naira from thẹ Federal Government to adọpt thẹ same sharing formular.
Mohammed Umar Bago said of thẹ amount, five million naira each is to be presented to the families of the deceased miners while two million naira each goes to survivors of the incident.
According to him, the financial support was intended to provide some relief package to the affected families and survivors, insisting that the money could not replace the lives loss
The Governor expressed appreciation to families of the deceased and survivors for their patience and perseverance during the difficult period, and commended the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Faruk Bahago, for his continued support and counsel to the government, the affected families and survivors.
Governor Bago advised thẹ miners to use thẹ money for a alternative source ọf livelihood and directed thẹ Universal Basic Education UBEC to put a learning facility around thẹ Chanchaga Local Government Area to enable them take advantage of a conducive learning environment.
In his remarks, thẹ Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Faruk Bahago, appreciated the Niger State Government for the gesture, and gave an assurance that thẹ cheques which will be presented in his palace would be done judiciiusly, and offered prayers for peace in Niger state, and Nigeria.
