Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the implementation of promotions for 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

This was contained in a media statement signed by the Director General Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa and was made Available to journalists in Kano.

The approval covers staff due for promotion in January and July 2026 and involves the release of N235.1 million for the exercise across the state’s 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).

It stated that the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Yusuf Kabir, had requested the release of N235,116,339.09 for the implementation of the promotions, following the completion of eligibility verification and salary adjustment calculations for the affected personnel.

SUBEB said timely implementation of the promotions was necessary to boost staff morale, enhance career development and strengthen service delivery in the basic education sector.

The board said it had approximately 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel serving across the 44 LGEAs, making it one of the largest public institutions in the state.

It said the administration inherited outstanding promotion backlogs, including arrears spanning seven years and another backlog of one-and-a-half years, adding that the governor had previously approved and implemented the outstanding promotions.

According to the board, the intervention has significantly boosted staff morale and restored confidence in the service, while demonstrating the administration’s commitment to the welfare of public servants.

The approval was ratified at a recent State Executive Council meeting, paving the way for the release of the funds and implementation of the January and July 2026 promotions.
