Kano State Ministry of Health has engaged the Ministry for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPME) and other key procurement stakeholders in a strategic dialogue aimed at enhancing efficiency, transparency, and service delivery within the state’s healthcare sector.
The meeting brought together major actors involved in public procurement processes to strengthen collaboration, ensure compliance with due process requirements, and promote value for money in the utilization of public resources allocated to healthcare services.
Speaking during the engagement, the Commissioner for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, Comrade Nura Ma’aji, stressed the importance of effective procurement systems in achieving quality healthcare delivery across Kano State.
He noted that the timely procurement of essential medicines, medical equipment, and other health commodities is critical to improving patient outcomes and ensuring that healthcare facilities are adequately equipped to meet the needs of residents.
According to the Commissioner, transparency, accountability, and adherence to procurement regulations are vital for maximizing the impact of government investments in the health sector.
Participants at the meeting also reviewed key challenges affecting procurement processes, including delays in implementation, documentation gaps, and coordination issues among relevant institutions.
Stakeholders proposed practical measures to address the identified challenges, focusing on streamlining procurement procedures, strengthening institutional collaboration, and enhancing accountability mechanisms.
The discussions highlighted the need for continuous engagement between procurement agencies and health sector managers to ensure that procurement activities align with the state’s healthcare priorities and development goals.
The Kano State Ministry of Health, under the leadership of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran, reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with procurement authorities and development partners to improve the efficiency of healthcare service delivery.
The ministry emphasized that strengthening procurement systems will contribute significantly to ensuring the availability of quality medicines, equipment, and essential healthcare supplies across public health facilities in the state.
The engagement is expected to foster stronger partnerships among stakeholders and support ongoing efforts by the Kano State Government to build a more responsive, transparent, and effective healthcare system for residents.
