The World Human Rights and Peace Commission has identified drug abuse, maternal mortality, and out-of-school children as major priorities in its activities across African countries.

The Programme Coordinator in Nigeria, Alhaji Bello Isah, made this known during the induction ceremony of Alhaji Abubakar Yahya Kusada as the Commission’s Ambassador and Grand Patron in Nigeria, held in Abuja.

Alhaji Bello Isah explained that the Commission has nominated highly profiled personalities to expand the scope of its operations in the protection of human rights and the delivery of other social services in Nigeria.

He said the induction of Alhaji Abubakar Yahya Kusada was based on his outstanding record of humanitarian service in various capacities within his state and other parts of the country.

The coordinator, however, congratulated him on the new appointment and urged him to redouble his efforts in serving society and the country at large, assuring him that the commission would continue to be proud of him in all its operations within and outside Nigeria.

In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Abubakar Yahya Kusada thanked the commission for finding him worthy of the position and pledged to sustain the momentum to ensure that millions of people benefit from the partnership.

Alhaji Abubakar Kusada also confirmed that, as a lawmaker, he would liaise with the House Committee on Human Rights and other relevant agencies to create a conducive environment for organisations working to improve the lives of the less privileged in society.

The lawmaker also emphasized the need for the support of leaders of religious and traditional institutions across the country in creating awareness on issues that have been the major obstacles to the economic and political development of the Nigeria.
