The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has conferred the Infrastructure Governor of the Year award on Dauda Lawal in recognition of his administration’s strides in urban renewal and infrastructure development across Zamfara State.
Governor Lawal received the award at the second edition of the BON awards ceremony held at the NAF Conference Centre.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the organisation commended Zamfara State’s “unprecedented and transformative achievements” in infrastructure, noting that the recognition extends beyond the broadcasting industry.
According to the statement, BON—established in 1973 as the umbrella body for public and private broadcasters in Nigeria, undertook long selection process aimed at promoting professional excellence and upholding high standards in media practice nationwide.
The selection committee cited several factors for the award, highlighting Governor Lawal’s developmental strides across key sectors, particularly the transformation of Gusau into a modern state capital.
It also noted landmark projects, including the construction of a modern international airport, extensive urban renewal initiatives, and the building and equipping of general hospitals across the state.
The statement further reveals that the administration has constructed, renovated, and equipped over 800 schools across the 14 local government areas of the state.
The award, the statement adds, is expected to further motivate the governor to intensify efforts toward rebuilding and advancing Zamfara State.
