Nigerians Onion Marketers have suspended the exportation of onion to Ghanian Republic over unresolved dispute.

In a joint statement made by the group of onion Marketers associations leaders in Sokoto which was made available to newsmen, says the decision followed repeated incidents targeting their members, particularly at Kotoku Market, a key trading hub in the Ghanaian capital.

According to the traders, the situation escalated recently after a dispute between Nigerian and Ghanaian traders allegedly led to the confiscation of trucks transporting onions owned by Nigerian merchants.

The development, which threatens a major segment of agricultural trade within the Economic Community of West African States ECOWAS region, has raised concerns about the safety of Nigerian traders and the stability of cross border commerce between the two West African nations.

The statement maintained that the suspension shall remain in force pending the resolution of all outstanding issues and the restoration of a safe, fair, and lawful trading environment..

It called on the relevant authorities in both Nigeria and Ghana, as well as regional bodies to urgently investigate the reported incidents, including the confiscation of Nigerian onion trucks with a view to forestaled future dispute.
