The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS), Professor Tukur Adamu has advocated for the deployment of additional security personnel to the University’s host communities, where majority of staff and students reside.

The Chief Information Officer of the University, Jamilu Ibrahim Gusau who announced this in a statement said the VC made the plea when he led members of his Management Team on separate courtesy visits to key Security Agencies in Zamfara State.

The Vice Chancellor who took the mantle of leadership barely two months ago, said the engagements were aimed at formally introducing himself to the Heads of the Security Agencies, appreciating their sustained efforts in safeguarding the University, and seeking enhanced collaboration to further improve security on Campus and in the host communities.

Professor Adamu also stressed the need for proactive measures to ensure their safety of the University community.

“I have been briefed by the University Security Officer on the immense support and cooperation my predecessor enjoyed from your Agencies, which has significantly contributed to the uninterrupted academic activities in the University despite the prevailing security challenges in the State,” Professor Adamu stated.

Professor Adamu also assured the Agencies of his administration’s continued support and cooperation in their collective efforts to secure the University and its environs.

In their separate responses, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello; the Commander, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Mustapha Jimoh; the State Commandant of NSCDC, Sani Mustapha; and the Commandant of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards, AIG Muhammad Shehu Dalijan (Rtd), commended the Vice Chancellor for the visit.

The visits also provided an avenue for fruitful discussions between the University Management and the Security Chiefs on some vital issues, including Staff, Students and community sensitization and the adoption of more proactive strategies to curb criminal activities and address the root causes of the protracted security challenges.
