The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has approved the appointment of Mr. Haruna Dikko as the Director-General of the Zamfara State Rural Access Road Agency (RARA) in a bid to accelerate rural infrastructure development and boost security and economic growth.
The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, who announced the appointment in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Sulaiman Ahmad Tudu said the appointment takes effect from April 1, 2026.
The statement explains that, RARA was established to focus on improving rural infrastructure particularly roads and bridges by connecting rural communities to urban centres, thereby promoting inclusive economic growth across the state.
It says Governor Lawal’s administration has remained committed to driving development through strategic infrastructure projects, with emphasis on enhancing economic activities and strengthening the security of communities.
In addition to the ongoing urban renewal programme aimed at revitalising cities, the administration has awarded contracts for key rural road projects, including the 108-kilometre Magami–Dansadau road and the 95-kilometre Tsafe–Yankuzo road, valued at billions of naira, among others.
The statement explains that, initiatives are designed to transform the state’s infrastructure landscape in line with the government’s rescue agenda.
Engineer Haruna Dikko is a seasoned civil engineer and oil and gas professional with vast experience in project management, public procurement, and infrastructure development.
He has served in several strategic positions within the public service, including Acting Director of Civil Works and Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
Engineer Dikko holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree in Oil and Gas Engineering from Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland.
Governor Lawal expressed confidence that the appointee will leverage his technical expertise and administrative experience to significantly improve the condition of rural roads across Zamfara State.
