Due to increased security concerns in several areas of Jos, the capital of Plateau State, University of Jos students have been ordered to go home.
Concerns about the safety of students on campus have been raised by the decision, which was made public on Wednesday in the midst of increased tension in the neighborhoods surrounding the institution.
A statement issued by the Vice Chancellor Tanko Ishaya ordered the immediate evacuation of students from hostels.
The university management noted that the heightened tension posed a potential threat to students and Staff.
The Plateau State Government provided transportation services for students, to move them out of the campus.
According to the arrangement, students living within Jos and its environs were to be evacuated starting from Wednesday afternoon, while those living outside the city will be evacuated from Thursday morning.
The Vice Chancellor gave assurance that university management would ensure that normalcy return to the university community.
The development was necessitated by tension that erupted in Jos following the easing of the 48-hour curfew imposed by the the Plateau State Government in the wake of the deadly Sunday night attack in Anguwan Rukuba.
